Denmark’s Biggest Friday Bar turns the music down and the Friday Bar feeling up

When Denmark's Biggest Friday bar and sports day this year starts on Friday, 12 September, it will feature less music and more Friday bar, says Nikolaj Sommer, the Student Council’s secretariat manager.

The party is currently being set up on the lawn in University Park. Denmark's Biggest Friday Bar has put 11,000 tickets on sale this year, and so far, just under 9,000 tickets have been sold. Photo: Lise Balsby

On Friday, thousands of students will swap books, coffee, and laptops for beer pong, draft beer, and beer croquet as Denmark’s Biggest Friday Bar and Sports Day takes over the lawns of Universitetsparken. On the same day, the university also celebrates its 97th birthday. The Student Council, which organises Denmark’s Biggest Friday bar and sports day, is this year focusing on creating a great Friday bar feeling.

“We’re aiming for a 'Welcome to Campus feeling’, where new students can look forward to meeting their friends from other programs who have also just started,” says Nikolaj Sommer, Student Council secretariat manager. He continues:

“It's going to be a really cool party, with a great program and relatively cheap bar prices,” he adds. This year, the Student Council has chosen to embrace the feeling of Friday bar by organizing several Friday Bar-style activities. Here, students can look forward to both Drag Bingo and pub quiz from Tanken and Vinstuen.

Still MAS(ses) of music to come

Although the music lineup has been scaled down slightly, there are still seven artists set to perform on the lawn.

“We have a very mainstream programme with artists who have lots of streams on Spotify, so you can hear the music you know and would listen to at your local Friday bar,” Nikolaj Sommer tells us. The music program includes this year: MAS, Anton Westerlin, Stick, Lighthouse and Flame, Karoline Mousing, Sira Jovina and Dos Santos.

But before all the concerts and festivities really kick off, you can take part in the sporty side of the day, organized by Aarhus University Sports. Here you can challenge yourself and your fellow students in a wide range of sports, from Ultimate and Spikeball to more classic sports such as football and handball, as well as many others.

If you haven’t secured a ticket yet, there are currently still 2,000 tickets available out of a total of 11,000.
