Are you familiar with the university newspaper Omnibus? Do you read Omnibus’ newsletters when they land in your inbox twice a month? Do you find the newspaper’s content relevant? Is the coverage balanced?
These are some of the questions you will be asked to answer in the survey that will soon be sent out to staff and students at Aarhus University.
The editorial committee for the university newspaper Omnibus is currently conducting an evaluation of the newspaper to assess awareness and readership. According to the committee’s terms of reference, an evaluation must be carried out every four years, with the most recent one taking place in 2021.
The 2021 evaluation showed that readers were generally satisfied with the newspaper’s content – but also that there was a need to raise awareness of Omnibus.
Since then, Omnibus has undergone a number of changes. Most significantly, the newspaper has been given the opportunity to send newsletters to all staff and students twice a month. In addition, it has adopted a new visual identity, including a new logo and a redesigned news overview on the front page. Most recently, the newspaper has worked to increase the amount of English-language content in Omnibus.
“Omnibus has undergone a number of significant changes in recent years, and we are eager to find out whether this has influenced staff and students’ awareness and perception of our university newspaper.”
The evaluation of Omnibus is being conducted as a questionnaire survey, and it is important for the survey’s representativeness that as many people as possible take the 5 - 8 minutes needed to complete it – including those who do not read Omnibus. Staff and students at Aarhus University will soon receive an email with a link to the questionnaire.
“It is important to us that the survey reflects all groups at AU, as this will provide a stronger foundation for making Omnibus a valued and relevant medium.”
Omnibus was established in 2013 as an independent university newspaper at Aarhus University. At the same time, an editorial committee was set up to advise the editor on publishing strategy and provide ongoing feedback on issues of the newspaper. The committee is also responsible for safeguarding Omnibus’ editorial freedom.
