World-famous science conference comes to AU

If it is possible to talk about fashion within science, then you can’t ignore the phenomenon of TED Talks. This May, Aarhus University will host the first ever official TEDx event to be held in Aarhus.

Under the slogan "Ideas worth spreading" the non-profit organisation TED's scientific conferences have spread from the USA to Europe and Asia and via live streaming and YouTube they have attracted millions of fans from around the globe.

On 9 May at AU, 100 lucky people will have the chance to personally find out what the hype is about when the local organisers hold the first ever official TEDx event in the capital of Jutland – TEDxVennelystBlvd.

TEDx is the closest you can get to TED conferences, where recognised scientists, cultural personalities and business leaders give talks that must not be longer than 18 minutes on subjects ranging from what motivates us in our life to the big questions about the universe.

The X in TEDx simply means that the conference has been organised by local enthusiasts, but under license from and with the approval of the central organisation.

"We want Aarhus to experience the TEDx spirit and become part of the community. It is Denmark’s second-largest city, full of students, and we believe that Aarhus is ready to spread ideas that are worth spreading," says spokesperson Galuh Wulandari, who is originally from Indonesia but is taking his Master’s degree at AU.

The speakers will be announced during April. But Galuh Wulandari can already now reveal that conference participants can look forward to talks from a number of prominent local professors and artists.

The theme of the first TEDx event in Aarhus is "Time and timing”. The event will take place at Aarhus University in the Peter Bøgh Andersen lecture theatre, Helsingforsgade 14.

If you would like to attend the event, you should apply via the website www.tedxvennelystblvd.com.

The link to the application form is available from Wednesday 25 March.
