Mammoth work with contributions from more than thirty researchers

Nørre Vosborg in Time and Space is the title of a mammoth work recently published by Aarhus University Press.

[Translate to English:] Den nuværende herregård Nørre Vosborg kan dateres tilbage til 1570’erne, men meget tyder på, at der allerede i vikingetiden befandt sig et magtcenter på stedet.

More than 30 researchers with different scientific backgrounds have contributed to a book on the west Jutland manor house Nørre Vosborg. This makes the work the most comprehensive review of a single Danish manor house ever.

Addressed to everyone

That the work is of a size that requires the use of a very solid coffee table isnot only due to the number of authors. It is also due to an ambition to place things in a broader context, so the book is therefore not solely intended for people living in west Jutland with an interest in local history. Rather, it is aimed at everyone with an interest in what has taken place in Denmark over time.

Wealthy men and women of distant times

Archaeologists have examined what was built in the area before the present manor house. They found two medieval castles and a previously unknown Renaissance manor house.

Geologists have examined the surrounding landscape’s at times violent impact on Nørre Vosborg, and historians have researched the lives and times of the wealthy men and women who once sat at the high tables in the ancient castles.

At the same time architects have reviewed the current manor house’s architectural history, including a thorough renovation in recent times.

Caption: The current Nørre Vosborg manor house can be dated back to the 1570s, but there are strong indications that the site was a centre of power already in the Viking age.
