stud.BSS puts a smile on your face

A huge number of students click on stud.BSS a couple of times a day when they want a laugh. But very few people actually know who’s behind these entertaining video clips depicting the life of students. This is because the two students responsible are anonymous. Omnibus has met them for a chat about the project.

Why do you want to be anonymous?

X. The site attracted a lot of attention really quickly. And we wanted to see how far we could take it without anyone knowing who we were. We want the focus to be on the site – not on us.

Is it hard to keep quiet when you hear people talking about the site?

Y: Yes it is, but it’s also great fun to hear people’s reactions.

X. I managed to post a video on the site secretly a couple of weeks ago while I was with my study group. A few minutes later people started talking about it – I just had to try and keep a straight face.

Y: Someone asked me once whether it was me. I replied that I needed to check out what “they” had posted on the site.

What are you trying to achieve?

Y: At first the plan was to try and make people laugh. We didn’t mind spending time on it because it put a smile on people’s faces.

X. Actually, I think our goal is to see how far we can take it. We started the site late one evening. The first five or six likes arrived really fast. When we checked the site next morning, there were 150. And now we’ve overtaken all the other AU Tumblrs.

Do you make any money out of it?

X. Once we’ve paid for the domain, hosting and tax we only make enough to buy a beer down at the club. We’re not in it for the money.

Where do you get your inspiration?

Y: Lots of places: long-term problems for instance, or particular situations.

X. We try to keep the site bang up to date, and we often use ideas that we get from the people who visit the site. It’s great when people can be bothered to offer us their suggestions.

Y: The university is a very serious place to be, and we want stud.BSS to be the exact opposite. It’s just for fun.

The editors know the identities of the two students.
