VOXPOP: We prioritise the department seminars, because:
Charlotte Thornild Møller, research assistant:
"I work in Christian Kanstrup Holm's group, which collaborates closely with Søren Paludan’s group. So I want to show my support as Søren is giving the presentation. I typically prioritise the seminar when it’s about a topic related to my field. In general, it’s a good way of brushing-up on what’s happening in the field. The seminars are a good initiative that I want to support."
Jane Hvarregaard Christensen, associate professor:
"Unfortunately, I was only at a couple of the department seminars last year because I instead prioritised taking part in some of the more specialised seminars. But this year I intend to prioritise the department seminars, precisely because they have a broad audience and present many different areas of research, which can open your eyes to new collaborations and new approaches to research. The department seminars that I have been to have also been very inspirational. So when I was asked to be the speaker at one of the seminars later in the year, I said yes of course. Both because I want to generally tell people about my research, and because there’s a broad audience who therefore approach my research from many different angles."
Marina Romero-Ramos, associate professor:
"I can see three reasons for participating in the department seminars. It’s interesting to hear colleagues talk about their research. You have the opportunity to learn about new techniques and methods as well as possible collaborations. And then there is the personal aspect of it, that I want to support and show respect for the colleagues who make their knowledge available at the seminars. So I therefore give the seminars very high priority and if I’m unable to attend, I try to remember to send an email to the speaker in question with an apology. I have several times found that I could use input from the department seminars in my research work, so I find them very useful."
