Example of a case dealt with by the Research Practices Committee: Where is the data documentation?
A researcher had published a dissertation on the basis of some empirical studies. However, when other researchers subsequently wanted to delve deeper into the underlying data to verify the researcher's experiments, the researcher was not able to present the data.
"In this case we could not establish proof that the person in question had deliberately cheated, because what they told us could be correct. What we did was to say that both the person in question and the department ought to have done better when it came to the secure storage and subsequent documentation of data. It was a shared responsibility," says Professor Palle Bo Madsen.
